How long have you worked at OBR?
Since June 2015.
Would you tell us a little bit about your background?
My husband and I will be celebrating our 30th anniversary next year. We relocated from Maryland to Hatteras Island in 2001 when my son was just 4 years old, so he has grown up here.
Long before moving to the Island, I spent decades working in animal-related jobs, volunteering mostly with cat rescue, fostering and rehoming organizations, as well as TNR groups (trap, neuter & release). I spent a few years as a board director, prior to Hurricane Isabel, for The Outer Banks SPCA. Today, I volunteer with the Hatteras Island Friends of Felines group.
What is something others may not know about you?
I was a member of the Negotiated Rulemaking Committee from 2005 -2009, tasked with developing an Off-Road Vehicle management plan for Cape Hatteras National Seashore. I represented the “mom & pop” businesses to the best of my ability.
Currently, I am a board member of HICERT (Hatteras Island Community Emergency Response Team) and have been since its inception in 2012 after Hurricane Irene. We can start providing immediate assistance to folks since all of the members reside here.
What do you love to do outside of work?
Relaxing things, such as looking for sea glass and other treasures, reading, playing cards, jigsaw puzzles, and Candy Crush. I also like adult coloring and was doing this long before it became so popular.
What are your favorite restaurants?
My husband used to work in foodservice and knows just how I like my food, so my favorite place to eat is at home!
Do you have favorite local spots?
Uncle Eddie’s for mini-golf & ice cream.
